How we compare
Prices from each vendor's own pricing page
Starting prices and free plans are taken from the vendor's pricing page, not from reviews or resellers.
A second check against the live page
Each price and free plan is checked a second time against the live pricing page before it is published.
Update activity from app-store and website data
Release history from the App Store and Google Play, plus public website records, show how actively each app is maintained.
Restaurant waitlist software is an app your host uses in place of a paper list. You add each walk-in party and quote a wait, and the app alerts the guest's phone when the table is ready, so people can wait at the bar or down the street instead of crowding the door or holding a pager. Most of these apps also take reservations, and some connect to your POS.
Start with the list that matches your front door
Each best-of list is a filter, not a ranking. An app makes the list because its data passes one stated test, and the apps on it are shown A to Z. Pick the one that fits your biggest problem at the door:
- Free plans: you’ll find a $0 plan with the waitlist in it on the vendor’s own pricing page.
- Walk-in heavy: text notifications and wait-time estimates are both confirmed, for nights when the list runs long.
- Waitlist + reservations: reservations are confirmed, so bookings and walk-ins are handled in one app.
- POS integration: the app integrates with Square, Toast or Clover.
- Replace pagers: text notifications are confirmed, so the guest’s phone does the job of the buzzer.
- Small restaurants: you can start on your own, with public prices and sign-up without a sales call, even if the app also has an enterprise plan through sales.
On any list, filter chips narrow the cards further, for example to apps with a free trial, two-way texting or reservations, and you can re-sort by update activity or market presence. Open “Compare side by side” to see every app on the list in one table. Already using an app and thinking of switching? The alternatives pages set it beside every other restaurant app on the site.
How to read an app card
Price and plan
- From $X per month: the cheapest paid plan that includes the waitlist, as the vendor’s pricing page shows it.
- Book a demo for pricing: the vendor publishes no prices, so expect a sales call before you get a number.
- Free plan: “Yes” means the pricing page plainly offers a $0 plan with the waitlist in it. “No free plan listed” means it doesn’t. A free trial is shown on its own line and is not a free plan.
- See vendor pricing page: prices are posted, but not with a currency or billing period clear enough to quote.
Labels
- Update activity (Active, Moderate, Low or Unknown) counts the iOS releases and changelog entries from the last 12 months.
- Market presence (Established, Growing, Small or Unknown) comes from website traffic rank, Android installs, Chrome real-visitor data and domain age.
- Buying style (Sales-led, Sales-assisted or Self-serve), shown on each app page, tells you whether you can sign up yourself, with a sales plan sometimes on top, or must go through sales.
These labels describe public data, not how well an app handles a Friday rush. Each app’s page lists the numbers behind its labels, and how we compare gives every threshold.
In the comparison tables, every Yes or No was confirmed on the vendor’s website. An Unknown means the vendor’s site didn’t settle it either way, so ask them before your service plan depends on that feature.
Who runs this site
TablesReady, which makes one of the apps compared here, runs RestaurantWaitlistSoftware.com. Any card marked “Ad · Our own app” is TablesReady promoting itself. On the best-of lists and alternatives pages, that card is pinned at the top, and every other app follows in A-to-Z order.
Frequently asked questions
Is there free restaurant waitlist software?
Yes. 9 of the 29 apps here have a pricing page that offers a $0 plan with the waitlist included. Each free plan sets its own limits, such as a cap on parties, bookings or texts, so read the pricing notes on the app's page before you count on it for a busy weekend.
Can a waitlist app replace restaurant pagers?
For telling guests their table is ready, yes. 28 of the 29 apps have confirmed text notifications, which reach the guest's own phone, so there is no pager to hand out, charge or collect at the end of the night.
Which waitlist apps work with Square, Toast or Clover?
13 of the apps list an integration with at least one of those three POS systems. The POS integration best-of list shows each of them and which POS it connects to.
Why do some apps say "Book a demo for pricing"?
Those vendors don't publish prices on their website, so you have to talk to their sales team for a quote. 6 of the 29 apps work this way. You can still compare their features and labels here before you take the call.
How current is this information?
The site is updated monthly. Each app page shows the date its facts were last checked, and every price comes from the vendor's own pricing page.
